What Does It Mean to Raise Resilient Kids?
Resilience is the ability to adapt, recover, and grow through life’s ups and downs. For children, this means learning how to manage big emotions, cope with stress, and trust in their ability to try again when things feel hard. Neuroscience shows us that these skills are developed through repeated experiences of safety, connection, and practice.
When children feel supported and understood, their nervous systems learn how to settle. Over time, this co-regulation with caring adults becomes self-regulation - a foundational skill for lifelong emotional health.
The Brain Science Behind Resilience
Children’s brains are constantly developing. Each time a child practices calming down, expressing emotions, or problem-solving, new neural pathways are formed.
